Growing up in New York City, I always wondered what it would be like to throw one of those backyard movie night. The type of party where you set up a big projection screen, lay out lots of oversized pillows below perfectly strung lantern lights, and have enough snacks to get you through watching Clueless 3 times over. While I did have a backyard growing up (Bronx, represent), this sort of thing was nearly impossible to achieve without your neighbor Diane looking on from her bedroom window, or your neighbor John making noise at his own party with his buddies after work. Houses are so close together, and therefore, so are your backyards. I guess that's one of the downfalls of living in the city, but one we've all grown so accustom to living with.

Because unlike suburban areas where such party is achievable, we city folks have to get a little ~*crafty*~. I remember sitting around my patio set with my friends all hunched over 1 tiny little DVD player, (REMEMBER THOSE?) just so we can feeeeel like we were at one of those parties. We would all wear our "outdoor" pajamas, eat tons of candy, and then get yelled at by my Grandmother because we were being too loud. I miss those parties, even though they weren't as Pinterest-esque as I would have liked them to be.

Having moved to Manhattan (1 borough over) has made that dream even more unattainable. Backyards pretty much don't exist here, and with no backyard, comes no backyard movie party. However, I still have my crafty party skills embedded in my brain, and decided to get a little nostalgic with one of my girlfriends last weekend. I'm blessed to have a balcony in my apartment, so that was going to be the setting for our Clueless binge in honor of the 25 year anniversary.

First thing we needed? Snacks.

Snack of choice? White cheddar popcorn, obvi. Only thee best movie snack on this planet. I like to make it myself, not because I want to be a hipster, but because I once bought this jar of white cheddar flavoring, and now I'm trying to use it all. Aren't those impulse buys the best? And because I have just as much impulse as a 3 year old at a birthday party, I ended up with a big jar of white cheddar powder. Clearly one of the most important purchases I'll ever make as an adult.

Here's my recipe for homemade white cheddah popcorn:

1/2 cup popcorn kernels 
1 1/2 teaspoons white cheddar powder
1 or two pinches of salt/pepper

Place popcorn kernels in a brown paper bag then fold the flap down in half and then once more. Cook in the microwave for 2-3 minutes or until kernels are fully popped. Open bag, sprinkle in the white cheddar power and salt/pepper. Shake vigorously to combined and enjoy!

 I'm literally eating some of it as I type out this post, btw.

Popcorn and IZZE Sparkling Juice in tow, the universe was on our side and gave us thee perfect weather to hang out on the balcony and watch a movie we've both seen 6 or 7 hundred times. 84 degrees, no humidity, just as the sun was starting to go down. Like, does it get more perfect than that? As if.

PS, we must talk about my new favorite thing ever ever ever. I was feeling like some vino, but only had a bottle of red on hand. I'm someone who can strictly only drink white wine in the summer, as red wine warms my body too much, and then I end up passing out from a heatstroke. I don't, but you get what I mean. I prefer a nice crisp, cold glass of white on a hot summers night. 

BUT - because today was all about being crafty, I decided to pour a little bit of Malbec into my glass of IZZE Sparkling Blackberry just to see how it would taste. Oh my god, you guys. If you haven't tried this, TRY THIS. It was so incredible, sort of like a wine spritzer, but also not really. I can't explain it. All I can say is that you need to try it out for yourself. 

PPS, how incredible would the Sparkling Apple taste in some Chardonnay? *monkey hands over mouth emoji* That's going to be my next experiment, and I'll report back in due time.

As for the rest of the night, well, can you just look at this beautiful city? Even without a backyard to host a beautiful, lantern-filled bash, we still had a our tiny little oasis 10-stories above the busy NYC streets, while sipping on (wine infused) IZZE's and munching on homemade white cheddah popcorn. 

And for that, I'm grateful.
