Food and the City: Sesame Roasted Broccoli Yum

Sesame Roasted Broccoli

Sometimes you just need a sassy-side in your life. Something to caress the edges of your grilled chicken, or other health food of choice that you wish was pizza instead. Sometimes these sassy-sides make you kick, and scream, and jump for sassy-side joy.

Like, the other day, when I put my foot down and swore I was going to eat healthy for the remainder of the week, but ended up ordering pizza for dinner and then crying about it afterwards. True story, kids. I'm not okay in the brain.

Stop judging me and let's just get sassy and toasty and sesame-y with this roasted broccoli today, okay?

Sesame Roasted Broccoli

3 cups semi-cooked broccoli
2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
1 teaspoon sesame seeds
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Preheat your oven to 350. Cook your broccoli until they are half-way done (I just boiled mine in water until the florets turned a brighter green), then violently toss them in a bowl. You have to do it violently or else it won't work.

To your broccoli, pour on the sesame oil and sprinkle on the sesame seeds and crushed red pepper flakes. You can certainly use less red pepper than this if you can't handle the heat. Toss it all together to create a love fest of sesame, and spread the florets out in a single layer on a greased baking sheet. Roast in the oven for 10-15 minutes.
