easy mulled wine | DIY gift idea

There are few things in life that I can look at and immediately think about the holidays. Santa Claus, Christmas trees, gingerbread cookies all fall under the usual suspect category when it comes to identifying the holidays to me. One thing in particular, though, is a nice warm glass of mulled wine.

If you've never tried mulled wine before, boyyyy are you in for a treat. You don't even have to be a huge wine drinker to enjoy the stuff. But if you enjoy one of life's best combinations, apple & cinnamon (and of course booze), you're definitely going to find your snuggled up on the couch watching Elf while enjoying a glass.

Also, I'm pretty sure the scent that exudes from the pot while it's cooking is what dreams are made of. Like, if you had to bottle up and sell what Christmas smells like, it's this.

Oh.. and did I mention that you would be the dopest friend on this planet if you cooked up a batch and then handed out jars of the stuff to your friends for Christmas? I didn't? Well, now I just gave you an excellent idea. You're welcome.

easy mulled wine

1 bottle of red wine
1 large apple, sliced
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon dried ginger
cinnamon sticks *optional

In a large pot, pour red wine over all other ingredients and simmer on the stove for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then pour into individual glasses. If giving out as gifts, transfer to mason jars and cover immediately. Be sure to dress them up with some cute tags or fresh cinnamon sticks! :)
