Happy Birthday..Happy Birthday Rose Cake

Oh boy, another year down and another birthday to celebrate. Which of course just means..
another cake to bake.

I've had some people ask me "Why would you bake your own Birthday Cake? Shouldn't your
beloved boyfriend who cares so much about this day, make it? " My answer is easy.
I was just really dying to make a "Rose Cake".

I figured it had to be colorful and it had to be sweet. So I just went with a traditional white cake, colored too look like a big mesh of rainbow. Originally, I was going to do a 6 layer rainbow cake, a layer for each color, but I decided against it when this cake only needed to feed 5-6 people. And who likes to waste cake??

That will be for another day, and another blog post. Soon.

I gave the layers a crumb coat and left it in the refrigerator over night.

Crumb coating is just giving your cake a quick, messy, coating to make the finish product look nice and smooth. Its a good way to conceal the actual cake part, or if you'll be using fondant.

This morning I filled an icing bag with plain ol vanilla frosting and used a 1M tip to make the roses.

Start on the sides, and use your 1M tip (or any swirl/star tip) to make your roses. Start in the middle and circle around it. Trust me, its easier then it looks. You can do it while you're wasted. I mean...

When you have the entire perimeter of the cake covered in roses, start on your top.

Silly me didn't have enough frosting to cover the entire top like I wanted, so I just did the outside and 1 in the middle. My frosting was also melting since for some reason its basically 115 degrees in the Spring.

By the time I took this picture, my roses already started to "wilt" from the hot weather. I know, you're disappointed in me. I promise to regain back the respect. Amen.

P.S - Never let a guy light the candles. It turns into a waxy mess.

Thank you all for the wonderful Birthday Wishes!
Hope you're all having a good Memorial Day Weekend!
